Founders
Gang Luo, PhD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology – Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School
Dr. Luo is a research engineer who has worked with optics, image processing, and biomedical engineering, which influenced his interest in the mechanisms of the human visual system. He studies assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments. His current research includes the development of portable collision warning devices – including smartphone-based technologies to improve walking mobility, and driving behaviors in individuals with visual impairments.
Mojtaba Moharrer, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher – Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School
Dr. Moharrer is a Research Fellow at Schepens Eye Research Institute (SERI), Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School. He study’s drivers’ behavior, traffic safety and cross-cultural differences in driving behavior using a wide range of tools including driving simulator, naturalistic driving, hazard perception test, and questionnaire. Working in Dr. Gang Luo’s lab at SERI, he investigates driving behavior among visually and cognitively impaired drivers using naturalistic driving, examining the role of varying visual functions in safe driving, focusing on motion perception. With a multidisciplinary background in engineering, public health, transportation and driving psychology, Dr. Moharrer’s professional and personal passion is traffic safety; the core of his research is Human Factors and driving behavior.
