NG Research

In early 2018, the NG Refractive Device was developed by Dr. Gang Luo and Dr. Mojtaba Moharrer. Through their research on vision diagnosis, the NG device (consisting of low cost accessible materials and the application of deep scientific knowledge) was developed with attention to diagnostic accuracy, the environment, transportability, language, and potential for cultural uptake.

The NG refractive kit is an easy-to-use, low-cost environmentally friendly device that allows non-eye care professionals, with little training, to measure refractive error without the need of a professional eye specialist. The NG refractive kit has been tested for accuracy against current equipment in U.S. hospitals. The NG team hopes to empower members of underserved rural communities to measure refractive errors, and tap into the growing network of NG glasses distribution partners to get free-to-low cost prescription glasses.
